I had the honor of inducting the new set of officers of PAMET VIRGINIA held last Oct. 20, 2007. The induction ball was so impressive with the number of guests who attended along with the program and reception that was so well organized. The Virginians just love to dance with almost everyone doing the line dancing. Vangie Ravago was re-elected as the President and is just the right person for the job. They are an example of a very active chapter with the numerous services that they contribute to the community. Dan Dominguez and I are so grateful for the hospitality during our 2 days stay. Join me in congratulating the new set of officers and to the outgoing officers, I commend you for a job well done.

Words are not enough to describe how thankful I am to all of you. From the bottom of my heart, please accept my sincere thanks and gratitude for the great experience that everyone had in Las Vegas. To all the delegates from the different chapters especially those from the Philippines, our friendship are testimonies of unconditional commitment to PAMET. The meeting gave me more inspiration to promote PAMET and I'd been busy doing just that. I joined the entourage of ex Phil. President Fidel Ramos during his 3 days visit to SF and Sacramento to launch his book. It was exciting to see all the delegates who could make it, and to those who couldn't make it, we missed you. We hope to see you all in Houston, Texas for the 11th BIENNIAL NATIONAL CONVENTION next August 27-31, 2008. The welcome dinner at the home of Ferdie and Florence Destura was a real treat.We asked Florence if she cooked all week. Thank you. People relaxed with the Karaoke session. Now we know who can sing and dance.The lunch at Romy's place was also a treat. The seminars organized by Evelyn Sayre were interesting, very well presented with great speakers. Quality Assurance in the laboratory is a prerequisite to reliable and accurate results, as elaborated by Ms. Janice M. Conway-Klassen. Dr. Rena Nora discussed the inevitable "Stress in the Workplace". We should learn how to manage stress so as not to be professionally burned out.The third session dealt with financial management. After another meeting with AMT personnel and a short lunch, we started the excutive meeting conducted by the president, Mila Braganza. It was a successful meeting, tabled some amendments that will be presented at the convention. The Pres.Elect Esther Madamba presented the plans for the convention. PAMET-TEXAS is already working hard for the big event.Let us support them tackle this project. The Gala night was very memorable, and the guest speaker challenged us to uphold the medical technology profession. The Rio is huge. It is a big city by itself. We enjoyed our stay there. We did some shopping, gambling-yes( lost some, won some) and bonded with our second family-PAMET. Again, thank you Lydia, Evelyn, Ricky, Ferdie, Leo, Virgie, Nelly, Romy, Fita, Becky, and ALL OF YOU.

I heared about pametusa in the indeed.com forum. Glad that members and officials of both PAMET USA and Philippines are striving to create the best for Filipino MEDTECHS. One proof is the ASCPi for Phil. MedTech graduates. I'm as well a MedTech graduate, I've volunteer in private and government hospitals in the Phils. but unlucky enough to acquire a post so I venture in the field of sales to earn. But Medical Technology is really my interest so after 8 mos I saw myself again training in a private hosp. in QC until I was hired after 7 mos. Barely 3 mos. in the hosp. I received a job to work in Saudi Arabia under Hematology Section. Until then I'm still here in Jeddah. I am an AMT passer, CGFNS/ICHP cerificate holder, but still I could not find a job in the US. I've tried agencies in the Phils. but they prefer Generalist experience even though I am willing to work for that position. I got some replies from Labs in the USA to work under Hema Section but cannot sponsor me. I would like to ask for suggestions on my situation. Or I might as well quit my Saudi post and volunteer again the Phils. Thanks in advance.

Ive been with Dole Philippines as an analyst, Ive been with Gensan Doctor Hospital and with the General Santos City Hospital as an Acting Administrator. My life as a health worker was challenged by the way we were being treated...as medical technologists...especially in the Philippines. Ive been working with the Public Services International (Global Union Federation) since 2005 as project coordinator on Health Sector Project. I noticed that we medical technologists mainly focus our professional development... what about our rights to good working environment, better pay, terms and conditions of employment, representations and other issues like "working under the supervision of pathologists"? I wish to see our association not only as professional group but as well as a trade union that would truly represents our issues and concerns. Recently, i worked with Philippine Nurses Association about the idea of making PNA as a collective group to represent PNA in issues which are not within the capabalility ( legally) of the recent PNA as professional organization rather than a trade union. I also wish to challenged the current leadership of PAMET to have a "marketplace workshop"on working conditions of medical technologist in their worksplaces during the 2007 Annual Convention.
