MICHIGAN CHAPTER
Recent activities since the convention in Houston.
1. Due to the bad economy, we cancelled our annual x'mas party so we instead joined "Adopt-A-Family" program to help families who are in badly need of help. We were given a family that included 2 children with learning disabilities and a single mother and grandmother. We were able to donate most of the things that were on their wish list. Just so you know, the only wish that thay really want was to have a christmas tree in their home. We were so touched that we went out and beyond to what they wanted. Recntly, we received a thank you note from the family and a handwritten card from the kids. It was awesome !!!
2. Becky Tungol, our past president and a Pamet-Usa Board Member, went to Guagua, Pamapanga for a medical mission in January 2009. She joined with other group organizations and went as our representative.
3. Hermie Bigornia, an active member, also went to Palawan for another medical mission in February 2009 with the Philippine Medical Association of Michigan and went as our representative.
4. Joe Sedayao, our incoming president, joined the 6th Annual Asian American Health and Culture Fair in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This included free health screenings, seminars and workshops.
5. On our future agendas : We are planning to have a bowling tournament and a "Spring Fling" for our fundraising events.
6. There will be a Health and Fitness Expo in May of which we will participate to give free screenings for glucose, cholesterol, urinalysis and hemoglobin.
7. I will be sending lavender top tubes, urinalysis kits and other things to send to Esther for our own medical mission as we cannot go at this time.
